Festival of Lights
THE SEASON'S BRIGHTEST EVENT!
As a result of poor road conditions and expected high winds later today, the 2019 Festival of Lights Parade is cancelled. Please plan to join us for a “static parade” held on Sunday, December 8 at the Rushmore Mall. Floats will line up on the outside edge of the parking lot, next to the road that loops around the Rushmore Mall. At 6 p.m., when the Rushmore Mall closes, their overhead lights will be shut off. The community is invited to drive the loop around the Rushmore Mall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to see all of the floats.
Be Part of the Magic!
Join us for this dazzling nighttime parade as it travels through downtown Rapid City amidst sparkling lights and huge crowds! From horse-drawn carriages to amazing displays on flatbed trucks, the Festival of Lights Parade delights crowds of over 30,000 and is the premier winter event in the Black Hills.
A Black Hills Tradition
Every year, there comes a magical evening when crowds gather and children’s eyes glow with wonder. In downtown Rapid City, floats strung with thousands of lights sparkle in the trees, twinkle on the buildings, and dazzle more than 30,000 spectators.
Main Street Square comes to life with holiday skaters and steaming cups of cocoa. Anticipation grows… surely the 22nd Annual Festival of Lights Parade will begin soon!
This spectacular event, which has earned its reputation as the premier winter event in the Black Hills, is made possible by businesses and organizations throughout the City. The Parade provides a terrific opportunity to show your holiday spirit and leadership in our community. The Festival of Lights parade began as a project of the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Rapid City Class of 1996, and is still hosted by LRC alumni as well as other volunteers. We look forward to seeing you at the Season’s Brightest Event.
